“There is a secret in our culture, and it’s not that childbirth is painful, it’s that women are strong” ~ Laurie Stavoe Harm
As a registered midwife I have spent my career being with birthing women, and their partners, as they welcome a new life into the world. It is never any less a miracle than the first time I “discovered” birth and I am honoured and humbled every day that I am invited into the lives of these growing families.
Being a birth photographer has added an entirely new dimension to the way I work and practice as both a photographer and a midwife. It has highlighted for me how absolutely essential it is to be at all times respectful and considerate as the birthing women and her partner immerse themselves within their labouring space. The moment of birth, the gift of that moment and the miracle that it is, we should remain humble as we recognise that we have been invited into this incredible, intimate space.
I am so blessed to have shared in this journey with some amazing women, and I would like to share the Birth of Alice with you here. Thank you for the family for allowing these images to be shared.
